After months of an intensive work, Obeo is pleased to announce the release of the highly anticipated Sirius project. This will be a significant event at the EclipseCon Europe conference from October 29 to 31. Sirius in a few words Sirius allows you to create a model and to represent information in a visual way. A modeling workbench designed with Sirius provides a set of graphical editors (diagrams, tables, trees) to visualize and edit models from the Eclipse environment. The creation of this workbench is greatly facilitated by the ability to test the configuration instantly. This allows to quickly create an environment fully dedicated to the users' business domain. Sirius is the result of a collaboration initiated in 2007, when Thales wished a modeling workbench to support their system engineering process. Thales called on Obeo's services to develop a viewpoint technology for modeling, integrating strong requirements in terms of ergonomics, performance, robustness and personalizati...

Obeo Designer 6.2 is now available and brings many improvements, in particular improved performance of your modelers and a better user experience. New expression interpreters to boost performances You can improve the performance of your modeler up to 30 % by using new interpreters. Expressions are used by Obeo Designer to retrieve information from the model (to populate a representation, to dynamically compute graphical properties or to define the behavior of a tool). These three new interpreters have been added to simply retrieve the value of features (attributes and relations), to evaluate services and to get variables. Brand new comparison framework Obeo Designer 6.2 integrates EMF Compare 2.1. This component comes with an enhanced user interface. Most of all, its architecture has been redesigned to support comparisons of large fragmented models. Now, only the necessary fragments (minimized scope) of the compared models are loaded, bringing an incredible performance boost...
5 talks I won't miss (among others): Sirius By Example: Build Your Own Diagram, Table and Tree Editors in 20 Minutes Although there has been a (deserved) big trend on Textual DSL for the last few years, Graphical Languages are still widely used and a lot of new use-cases are invented every week. Current status of diagramming at Eclipse relies on efficient but old projects that are often seen with an entry-barrier too high according to adopters. I expect Sirius will have a lower entry barrier to develop tools for Graphical Languages. Via Eclipsecon.org...
